At First Trace Pipe Curing Systems, we have developed over a 25 year history, vast knowledge for different fibreglass pipe curing applications. We provide bespoke heaters to suit any pipe diameter and joint width, with heaters being designed to any specified curing temperature requirement.

In-built thermostat

In-Built Thermostat Heaters

Our in-built thermostatic range of Curing blankets are an extremely user friendly way to achieve GRE curing of pipe joints.

By having the thermostats in-built within the heater the operative simply connects the heater blanket to the power source, and the heater will cycle automatically once it achieves the desired set point temperature. We are able to supply various temperature ranges of in-built control thermostats to suit the desired curing temperature of pipe. Also by varying the power density around the circumference of our larger diameter heaters, heat uniformity around the whole of the pipe joint is achieved.

  • Apply alternating current only at the voltage marked on the heating blanket.
  • Do not step on the blanket or create sharp folds in it.
  • Inspect the blanket and power cord for loose wire connections and bare wires prior to applying alternating current.
  • Make sure the blanket is operating and heats up in all heating zones where applicable.
  • For required curing times and detailed assembly instructions, please refer to the applicable joint Assembly Instructions.
  • Use the blanket only for pipe sizes as indicated on the blanket.

For further information regarding the use of the blankets, please refer to the respective Assembly Instructions

Installation Instructions

Each blanket is suitable to cover a limited diameter range. It is essential to use the correct size heater on the appropriate pipe. Failure to do this may result in poor quality bonding or damage to the heater blankets. The heater blankets are designed to be fitted with the termination area that connects the power cord being placed at the top of the pipe. The blanket is wrapped around the pipe anticlockwise until the end with the words “THIS END OUT” overlaps the termination area.

As the blanket is fitted it must be tight against the wall of the pipe to avoid air gaps. The blanket can then be held in place using straps tied around the blanket keeping it tight against the pipe surface.

On vertical installations the above instructions should still be adhered to but with the cable exiting vertically downward.

Always exercise caution when removing the blanket only after it de-energizes completely

Our variable temperature range of GRE heat curing blankets offer greater accuracy of control +/- 2°C and has an operating range of between 0-200°C.

Heaters are available in both 220/240V and 110V supplies.

GRE Variable Temperature Controllers 0-200°C

First Trace analogue variable temperature control unit offers greater accuracy of control +/- 2°C when comparing against inbuilt thermostat heater. The hand held controller 130mm x 95mm x 55mm H will accurately regulate the heater blanket temperature between 0-200°C as well as having visual ‘Power On’ and ‘Heater Energised’ neon indication.

A PT100 sensor is located within the heater and is connected along with the power cable into a universal plug so the full range of heaters are interchangeable with the versatile controller.

Controllers are available in both 220/240V and 110V, are rated at 20Amps and come complete with a 2 meter supply lead.

The are available in the following sizes, suitable for the diameter of pipe specified:

25-50mm (1-2 inch) 80-100mm (3-4 inch) 150mm (6 inch) 200mm (8 inch)
250-300mm (10-12 inch) 350-400mm (14-16 inch) 450mm (18 inch) 500mm (20 inch)
600mm (24 inch) 700mm (28 inch) 800mm (32 inch) 900mm (36 inch)
1000mm (40 inch)

Larger diameters available.

Technical Data

For Nominal voltage, mains frequency and nominal performance please refer to specification:

  • Electrical Protection Class II
  • Temperature sensor/ PT100
  • Controller
  • Switching rating 16Amp
  • Heating Blankets 200°C
  • Withstand Temperature
  • Dimension and weight refer to specification
  • Maintenance and Care

Maintenance and care should be performed according to the manufacturers handling instructions. The function of the temperature controller must be checked for physical damage and calibrated within 24 months of manufacture date as indicated on each controller. Power connection cable should be inspected for visual damage after each day of operation.

Handling precautions

  • Do not lift or hold the heating blanket by the power cord.
  • Do not apply a power supply when standing in water, or on wet surfaces.
  • Apply a power supply only at the voltage marked on the heating blanket.
  • Do not crease or create sharp folds on the blanket when in storage.
  • Inspect the blanket and power cord for loose wire connections and bare wires prior to connecting the power supply.
  • Make sure the blanket is operating and heats up in all heating zones where applicable.
  • Use the heating Blanket only for pipe diameters as indicated on the face of the heater.
  • For the required curing times refer to the clients specification.
  • For further assembly instructions regarding the case of the blankets please refer to the respective assembly instructions.

Installation Instructions

Only carry out the installation of the heating blanket after the adhesive bonding has solidified. Failure to carry out the procedure will result in heater damage and reduce the life expectancy. Each heating blanket is suitable to cure a limited diameter range. It is essential to use the correct size of heater on the appropriate pipe. Failure to do this may result in poor quality bonding or damage / failure to the heating blanket. The heater blankets are designed to be fitted with the termination connection at the top of the pipe. The blanket is wrapped around the pipe and should have a minimal overlap. As the blanket is fitted it must be tight against the wall of the pipe to avoid air gaps. The blanket can then be held in place using straps attached around the blanket, keeping it tight against the pipe surface.

GRE Digital ControllerGRE Digital Controllers

Our digital new generation GRE heat curing blanket controller has been designed for simplicity of operation yet provides accuracy and reliability to ensure a correct temperature joint cure.

The controller has digital adjustable temperature settings of 0°C - 200°C and also incorporates a built-in programme heat cycle timer, shown in minutes, which ramps down to zero at the end of the curing cycle, to ensure a relevant and accurate result. The controller also features smart temperature settings to ensure curing temperatures are not accidentally altered during the curing process.

In addition, the controller features a programme lock facility so personnel cannot tamper with the controls until the lock facility has been disabled, for added security and peace of mind.

The controller has a large digital display for clear vision and is ideal for operation in demanding industrial environments.

The GRE digital controllers are available in both 230v and 110v options.
